Hundreds of millions of phone numbers linked to Facebook accounts have been found online; surprised? 133 million records on U.S.-based Facebook users alone, and more than 415 million records over several databases outside the U.S. The alleged server wasn’t protected with a password, and of course someone was able to find and access the database. Each record contained a user’s unique Facebook ID and the phone number listed on the account. However, phone numbers have not been public in over a year since Facebook restricted access to most, if not all, users’ phone numbers.

This is another bad day at Facebook, since the latest security scandal involving  the Cambridge Analytica, which saw more than 80 million profiles scraped to help identify swing voters in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

The ever emerging security problem; although this is related to a direct human error rather than a (Russian) hack, this latest data exposure is the most recent example of data stored online and publicly without a password.
